3 Point Backhoe Information
One of the most common heavy duty construction equipment tools are the 3 point backhoes. These machines are all over the place and are most often attachments to another machine like a tractor. Some backhoes for sale will be three point backhoes that attach to other equipment, like maybe a bulldozer for sale, another tractor, etc. but are still stand-alone machines so that they can operate independently with only a need for a PTO to attach to.
Most heavy duty construction equipment can be found for sale at auction, online, in the classifieds, or just off the side of the road with a sign hanging from it.
Being one of the most common types, three point backhoes are available in all kinds of sizes to fit all kinds of machines. Most tractors with a 3-point hitch will accept 3 point backhoes of like or similar size. So a small, 20hp tractor might work with small, 5 or 6 foot 3 point backhoes.
Which brings up another point. The rating on 3 point backhoes is usually done by reach, measured in feet. The further out (and down) a three point backhoe can reach, the longer the size (measurement) given. Larger ones can go down to 11 or 12 feet, mid-sized ones will reach to 8 feet, and smaller backhoes for sale will be measured at 3-5 feet.
An oversized garden tractor that accepts three point backhoes, for instance, might use a 3 foot reach while a large, industrial, heavy bulldozers for sale might accept 12 foot three point backhoes.
Regardless, knowing what you need it for, what kind of equipment you’ll attach it to, and whether it will be what you want is definitely something you need to know before shopping for backhoes for sale. Sometimes, 3 point backhoes aren’t good enough and you’ll need a full machine and will want to look at backhoes for sale (standalone units).
